Playing their first professional game on April 25, 1876, the Chicago Cubs (then known as the White Stockings) began their illustrious legacy. Right from the beginning the team was built with impressive rosters and a fanatical fan base. Adrian “Cap” Adams became the Cubs’ first Hall of Fame inductee managing the team for 22 years and becoming the first player to accumulate 3,000 hits in his career. The turn of the century brought a managerial change, and first baseman, in Frank Chance who would later become part of the infamous double-play combination of Tinker to Evers to Chance. It also brought a name change from the White Stockings to the Cubs. The early part of the century saw the Cubs participate in the World Series in 1906, 07, 08, and 1910 winning two of those appearances in 1907 and 1908. This is also the last time the Cubs have won a World Series.

In 1921, Phillip Wrigley purchased the Chicago Cubs and renamed the field to Cubs Park until 1926 when he renamed it to Wrigley Field which it remains today. From 1929-1938 the Cubs won the pennant every 3rd year but failed to win the World Series. 1945 would be the last World Series appearance for the Cubs again losing one more time.
The second half of the 20th Century brought hard times for Cubs fans as the team only had 3 winning seasons from 1945-1966. Yet the fans continued to support their Northsider’s. In recent years, the team has rebounded to be more competitive so the hope of every Cubbie fan is the 100 year drought will soon end.
When you look at the impressive roster of players/managers who have donned the Cubs uniform like “Mr. Cub” Ernie Banks, Leo Durocher, Billy Williams, Ferguson Jenkins, Don Kessinger, Ron Santo, Randy Hundley, Ryne Sandberg, and personalities like Harry Caray and a timeless ball park like Wrigley Field, it is no wonder that Cubs fans will always bleed blue and have eternal hope. Cubs Collectibles will try to keep these memories and traditions fresh so future generations will know the Cubs and baseball are synonymous.
